9:30 am & 11:30 am

MANDING JATA presents the performing arts and oral traditions of the Mali Empire, encompassing much of the region now known as West Africa, in THE MANDING EMPIRE REVEALED

The largest Empire in African history, its most celebrated city was the fabled Timbuktu. At the crossroads of MANDING culture, Timbuktu drew together performers from across the Empire, generating a rarified level of creative vitality. Much of the Manding Jata repertoire comes from this golden era, between the 13th and 15th centuries.

This distinguished group of musicians, dancers and singers comes from Mali, The Gambia, Burkina Faso and Ivory Coast and has performed for enthusiastic audiences around the world.

"No other group has been this successful in impressing an understanding of diversity and the individual potential to be all that one can be."
Eric Hall, Executive Director
Gulf Coast Marine Institute, Bradenton / Sarasota, Florida

"Seldom, if ever, in my thirty years in schools, have I seen an audience as mesmerized and excited by a performing group. A superb performance!."
Diane Kikkert, Principal
Morley Elementary, Burnaby, British Columbia
